Expectations
All paid and unpaid officials, contractors, volunteers, and employees of Perisphere Theater—later referred to as “covered Perisphere associates”—will conduct themselves professionally and respectfully as we work together to fulfill our mission, realize our vision, and uphold our values.
Perisphere and its associates welcome and support people of all backgrounds and identities.
We treat each other with respect and kindness. While we may have strong disagreements, we refrain from insulting and menacing language and violence of any kind. In relating to each other, we begin with an assumption of good and honest intentions and a shared commitment to our goals.
We are sensitive to the fact that each of us receives and processes words and actions differently, so we’re careful about what we say and do.
Violations
Perisphere Theater will not tolerate discrimination, abuse, or harassment of any kind. The following behaviors, as defined here, shall be considered violations of the code of conduct and ethics:
Abuse. A demeaning, harmful, or menacing action, undertaken by a person in power—whether for their own benefit or the perceived benefit of the company or one of its projects—to coerce or manipulate another person. Physical, verbal, or otherwise, this term covers any behavior that causes harm or reasonable fear of harm.
Discrimination. Actions in favor of or against a person based on the group to which the person is perceived to belong, including but not limited to the legally protected statuses of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, family responsibilities, political affiliation, disability, genetic information, or creditworthiness.
Harassment. A pattern of recurring microaggressions, unwanted sexual advances, discrimination, or other abuse. This violation includes actions that directly target an individual as well as less direct actions that serve to create a hostile environment. The individual being harmed is not always the specific person being harassed, as anyone witnessing harassment can be harmed by it.
Specifically with regard to sexual harassment, a hostile work environment can be created by anyone in the work environment through gratuitous sexual conversation, including vulgar or lewd jokes; unwelcome sexual materials, including texts, emails, cartoons, or posters of a sexual nature; or unwelcome physical contact.
Complaint procedure and disciplinary action
We have a written procedure for handling complaints. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against any person found to have violated this code of conduct and ethics. Depending on the seriousness of the offense and considering any aggravating circumstances, disciplinary action may include verbal or written reprimand, suspension, or termination of contract. Due to the short-term nature of our project-oriented work, we will consider and resolve accusations of inappropriate behavior with all possible speed.
No Retaliation Policy
No one in any official position with Perisphere Theater or with a production or project of Perisphere Theater is permitted to fire, demote, harass, or otherwise retaliate against an individual for lodging a complaint alleging a violation of this code of conduct and ethics or for participating in the complaint procedure described in this document. Lodging a complaint will in no way be used against the complainant or have an adverse effect on the complainant’s present or future status with the company. Violations of this “no retaliation” policy will treated in the same manner as violations of the code of conduct and ethics.
